Modern Slavery Statement

Last updated: 1 June 2026 · Kazi Konnect (ACN 695 480 703)

This statement is made by Kazi Konnect (ACN 695 480 703) in accordance with the Modern Slavery Act 2018 (Cth) and reflects our commitment to identifying, preventing, and addressing modern slavery risks in our operations and supply chains.

Kazi Konnect is a Victorian-licensed social enterprise labour hire company. Our mission is to create fair, dignified, and well-supported employment for people from disadvantaged backgrounds. The prevention of modern slavery and worker exploitation is not merely a compliance obligation — it is fundamental to who we are.

1. Our Structure, Operations, and Supply Chains

Kazi Konnect is a proprietary limited company incorporated in Victoria, Australia (ABN 71 695 480 703). We operate as a licensed labour hire provider under the Labour Hire Licensing Act 2018 (Vic). We supply workers to host employers in the construction, civil, warehousing, cleaning, and facilities management sectors across Victoria. Our supply chain consists primarily of domestic service providers including payroll service partners, safety training providers, and technology vendors. We do not operate internationally and do not source products from overseas manufacturing chains.

2. Risks of Modern Slavery in Our Operations

Worker Vulnerability

By the nature of our mission, we work with cohorts who are statistically more vulnerable to exploitation — including youth justice-involved individuals, newly arrived migrants, refugees, and people experiencing housing instability. We acknowledge this heightened risk and have structured our operations specifically to mitigate it.

Labour Hire Industry Context

The labour hire industry carries inherent modern slavery risks, including underpayment, sham contracting, and unsafe working conditions. Our LHA licence, full payroll management, and independent mentor oversight are direct mitigations against these risks.

3. Actions We Take to Address Modern Slavery Risks

Licencing & Compliance

We hold a Victorian Labour Hire Licence, which requires demonstrated compliance with employment laws including the Fair Work Act 2009 (Cth). We are the employer of record for all placed workers — we never use sham contracting or unpaid trials.

Fair Wages & Entitlements

Every worker placed by Kazi Konnect receives at minimum the applicable Modern Award rate of pay, plus all statutory entitlements including superannuation, leave entitlements, and WorkCover insurance.

Worker Education & Rights

All workers receive a pre-placement induction covering their workplace rights under Australian law, how to report concerns, and the confidential grievance process available to them.

Host Employer Vetting

We conduct due diligence on all host employers before placing workers, including site inspections and contractual commitments to safe, respectful, and lawful working conditions.

Mentor Support

Dedicated mentors maintain regular contact with placed workers throughout their placement, creating an independent channel for workers to raise concerns without fear of losing their job.

Grievance Mechanism

Workers have access to a confidential grievance process through both our internal team and, where relevant, the Australian Workers Union (AWU Victoria Branch). Workers are educated about external reporting options including the Fair Work Ombudsman.

4. Supply Chain Due Diligence

Our supply chain is primarily domestic. We require all service partners to operate in compliance with Australian employment law. Where we engage payroll, training, or technology providers, we conduct basic due diligence to confirm they are legally registered Australian entities with compliant employment practices.

5. Effectiveness

We assess the effectiveness of our modern slavery risk mitigation through: regular payroll audits to confirm award compliance, mentor check-in reports tracking worker wellbeing and any concerns raised, host employer site review outcomes, and grievance log review at Board level. As a recently established organisation, we are committed to developing more formal modern slavery metrics as we scale.

6. Consultation

This statement has been prepared with input from Kazi Konnect's founding director and reflects the views and commitments of the Board of Directors. As our operations grow, we will expand consultation to include worker representatives, partner organisations, and community advisors.

7. Approval

This Modern Slavery Statement has been approved by the Board of Directors of Kazi Konnect. It will be reviewed and updated annually or upon material change to our operations.
