Marcus walked out of custody at 20 with no work history, no references, and a record that made most employers look the other way. He had been cycling through the justice system since 15 — not because he lacked ability, but because no one had ever offered him a structured path forward.
Referred through Parkville College, Marcus was connected to Kazi Konnect's youth justice employment pathway. Within two weeks of his release, he was placed on a major Victorian infrastructure project in site logistics.
"I thought people would always see me as my past. Kazi Konnect showed me they see me as my future. I've got a wage, a mentor who actually checks in, and for the first time — I've got something to lose. That changes everything."

A New Beginning
Amira arrived in Victoria speaking limited English, with nursing qualifications from Ethiopia that weren't yet recognised in Australia. Her immediate goal was simple: work, stability, and a way to send money home to her children.
Amira came to Kazi Konnect through a referral from the Australian Multicultural Foundation. She had been in Victoria for four months, struggling with English, unsure of her workplace rights, and repeatedly turned away by employers who saw her visa status as a risk.
Our Community Liaison, Abuk, met with Amira in her language, walked her through every entitlement she held under Australian law, and helped her complete the onboarding in a way that felt safe and culturally respectful.

Jamal grew up in Melbourne's western suburbs. Despite completing Year 12, he spent two years in and out of casual work — mostly cash-in-hand arrangements that paid below award and offered no super, no WorkCover, and no stability.
Referred by 16 Yards, a community sport and leadership organisation in Melbourne's west, Jamal was matched to a warehousing role in Sunshine. He came with energy and reliability — Kazi Konnect came with the compliance framework that protected him and made him an asset worth keeping.

Our Youth Employment Specialist Deng connected with Jamal through shared community background, walking him through the onboarding, explaining superannuation, award rates, and what a safe workplace looks and feels like.
Structure as a Lifeline
For Ling, the discipline of shift work — knowing where to be and when — was itself transformative. After years without routine, the structure of a supervised work placement gave her the framework to address everything else in her life.
Ling had been couch-surfing for eight months when she came to Kazi Konnect through HavenBridge Developments — a partner organisation focused on employment pathways for people experiencing housing instability.
She was placed in traffic control — a role that surprised her with how much structure and responsibility it carried. Her mentor worked closely with HavenBridge to coordinate flexible rostering around her housing transition, giving her the stability to address both work and home simultaneously.
"I never thought I'd be standing on a road site with a stop-slow bat, in a vest, directing traffic. But I love it. It pays well, I'm outdoors, and I saved enough in six weeks to pay a bond on a flat. That is everything."
